Managing Acoustics in a Retail Space with Glass Partitions

Retail environments are busy and loud spaces by nature. Hence, acoustic management is crucial to accommodate a variety of activities happening at the same time. For a hair salon environment, it is common to hear the sounds of customers’ chatters, in-store background music, as well as the sound of hair-care tools such as the hairdryer.

As a hair care specialist, the client provides a holistic approach where it starts with pre-treatment diagnosis to understand the issue of their customers, run the recommended treatment, followed by a post-treatment review. Therefore, the client needs to create an acoustically comfortable environment for their walk-in customers as well as store attendants.

With the SOLO P60 Glass Partitioning System, we created a couple of rooms intended for confidential consultations. SOLO P60 Glass Partition System is a single glazed panel system that features a slim aluminium framework (Width 60MM). This system provides stereoscopic design visibility whilst maintaining the elegance and sleekness of a single glazed panel. The SOLO P60 also adds a contemporary and modern touch to any environment. Achieving up to STC = 38 with acoustic laminated glass, this system helps to reduce unwanted noise but also creates a conducive space.

Complementing the SOLO P60, SOLO Frameless Doors were integrated within the numerous consultation rooms. This single door leaf can achieve an acoustic rating of up to STC = 28, delivering the perfect solution to the aesthetic and also the acoustic requirements of the project. As a result, the installation of acoustic glass systems enhances the acoustic performance of this retail store.

Acoustic Glass Panels does not only bolster the acoustic performance of the fit-out but also improve the aesthetics of the space with its elegance. Creating a visually attractive store environment whilst offering a functional space was key for the client. With the use of glass partition, we sub-dividing a large store into smaller spaces but yet facilitate the flow of natural light.

Additionally, to add a touch of personalisation to the glass partition system, the client has opted to incorporate a transom flat-bar design. Featuring a slimline aluminium framework bonded to the glass vertically and horizontally, thereby retaining both the structural stability and acoustic performance of the glass partition. Furthermore, applying the black framework in this manner gives the appearance of cutting through the glass with dramatic effect.
